Language Structure: Questions to Consider


Choose three of the following questions. Think about them, then write up a short paragraph for each and email it to the instructor. You do not need to do any research to find the answers; these are questions for you to think about.

Is Chinese harder than English? Can one language be harder than another?

Does the structure of a language influence how people think?

Do Chinese make certain mistakes in English because of the language structure of Chinese? Do Americans make certain mistakes in Chinese because of the language structure of English?

Does Chinese vocabulary - the relationships between words - seem easier or harder, more logical or less logical, than English?
